Leadership Development
Management is a discipline, Leadership is an art. Management is about the correct and reliable execution of business process, Leadership is about engaging and motivating the people who execute those processes. We can all cite examples of departmental managers in our organisations who are great at process, statistics, KPIs etc., but somehow fail to deliver, who complain that they need ever more resources, whose processes are never reliably executed. Very often we describe these individuals as "promoted beyond their ability", and their career progression stops there - they get moved "sideways" (and down a bit), they become a burden on the organisation, even though they were originally promoted on the basis of their valuable contribution to date.
In many cases the failure is simply one of leadership. However well they understand the business, how to construct and measure the processes required etc., they fail because they fail to engage the people working under them, and are thus disabled. Leadership is more than just telling people what to do!
SBA provides Leadership Mentoring to support and transform the effectiveness of weaker managers. We can't help all of them, but many just need to be shown how to understand and harness the motivations of their staff to help them perform, others need a commercial sounding board to help them keep their responsibilities and activities in perspective. We support, mentor and coach managers at all levels, from departmental heads to CEOs. If you have a new or problem manager and you want to give them a leg up into meeting the challenges of their new responsibilities then give us a call - mentoring takes little time, an hour here or there, periodic meetings and telephone conversations, so it is probably one of the most economical forms of intervention consultancy you can buy.
