Relational Databases
For many people relational databases are a black box. Many SQL developers major on one database, typically Microsoft SQL Server, and stick to it. The database offerings of different vendors are not equal, and as the single most important component in many IT strategies, choice of database(s) is an important aspect in ensuring that IT can deliver the information it promises.
Similarly, database administration is often a black art. Database performance and resilience is largely determined by the skill of the Database Administrator (DBA).
Many organisations which operate and depend upon large databases have few skills in database administration and performance tuning, because these skills are only occasionally needed, but poor database performance is probably the single most common technical cause of slow systems, and can often be rectified with simple tuning improvements by a DBA.
SBA has DBA and performance tuning expertise in:
- Oracle
- PostgreSQL
- Informix
- SQL Server
- MySQL
- InterBase
